The library at the Library.

January is the slowest of slow seasons in New York. And small wonder. The weather is dreary, days are still dark, and the holiday fizz has gone flat.

In short, it’s the perfect time to come to New York if you’re looking for deals. Tickets to Broadway’s dearest shows, reservations at the city’s hottest restaurants – a snap. And hotels plush and modest roll out their most agreeable rates. If you’re ever longed for a night at the Greenwich, the Crosby Street or the Carlyle without breaking the bank (too much), this is your moment.

Or choose one of the 24 hotels participating in the second annual Hotel Week NYC.  Last year Hotel Week launched with eight participants and Nancy J. Friedman, a well-connected Public Relations firm, organizing things. This year Nancy Friedman is back along with most of last year’s hotels (we miss you, Andaz Wall Street and Z Hotel) and lots of new ones. For 17 days 12 participants will drop rates to $100, eight will charge $200, and rooms at four are available for $250. Sweet considering some in the group charge upwards of $500 a night.

Here’s the breakdown. $100 a nighters include The Comfort Inn Midtown West, The

Bunk beds at Pod 39.

Comfort Inn Times Square South, the Cosmopolitan, the GEM Hotel Chelsea, the GEM Hotel Midtown West, the GEM Hotel SoHo, The Hotel @ Times Square, nyma: the New York Manhattan Hotel, The Out NYC, Pod 39, Pod 51 and the Washington Jefferson.

Rooms cost $200 at Casablanca, Giraffe, Hotel Chandler, Hotel Elysee, The Jade Hotel, Library, The Maritime and Sanctuary Hotel.  (Bonus: the Casablanca, Giraffe, Library and Elysee toss in a complimentary continental breakfast.)

And $250 gets you a room at the Gansevoort Meatpacking District, the Gansevoort Park Avenue, Hyatt 48Lex and the James.

In most instances taxes are included in the flat rate, a very big savings (you normally pay 14.75 percent plus a daily $2 per room fee).

Small print alert: look for the words Hotel Week on the website or mention it on the phone when booking.

  • Thanks for the info. It also strikes me that this is a way to give someone a more affordable Christmas present. A night or two at a New York hotel, in January.
