Pass the Popcorn: What Movies Did Hotel Guests Watch Most During July 2012?

By Terry Trucco

Pass the Popcorn | tags: 21 Jump Street, American Reunion, Battleship, Dr. Seuss' The Lorax, Five-Year Engagement, Lockout, LodgeNet, Pass the Popcorn, Safe House, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, The Hunger Games, The Lucky One, Think Like a Man | August 3, 2012

That’s Hollywood movies, of course, and once again we bring you the monthly Top Ten list as compiled by LodgeNet, supplier of in-room entertainment to 1.6 million hotel rooms in the US and Canada.

First-run movies hit hotel rooms 60 days prior to their release on DVD and 90 days before Netflix lands them. So what spring blockbuster has hit it big in the nation’s hotels?

If you guessed Katniss Everdeen & co. you’d be right. Here’s the line-up of July’s Big 10 in hotel rooms across the nation (and Canada) and in New York City.

The Nation

The Hunger Games

21 Jump Street

Battleship

American Reunion

Five-Year Engagement

Think Like a Man

The Lucky One

Dr. Seuss The Lorax

Safe House

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

New York City

The Hunger Games

The Five-Year Engagement

Battleship

21 Jump Street

American Reunion

Think Like a Man

The Lucky One

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

  • Intriguing list, thanks.
In observing these lists month after month, do you see a pattern of difference in the national vs. New York watching habits? If so, what does it tell us?
Or is there some expert from LodgeNet who might have something insightful to say about the lists?

  • The pattern seems to be so goes the nation, so goes New York — up to a point. There is always at least one different movie in the New York list, versus the nation. And the order is rarely exactly the same. Kids’ movies tend to score higher on the national list, meaning perhaps that while families do indeed travel to New York, they spend more time elsewhere.
