Pass the Popcorn: What Were the Most Watched Movies in Hotel Rooms in January?

By Terry Trucco

Pass the Popcorn | tags: End of Watch, Flight, Here Comes the Boom, hotel room movies, Life of Pi, Lincoln, LodgeNet, Looper, Pitch Perfect, Skyfall, Taken 2, Wreck-it Ralph | February 5, 2013

Abraham Lincoln or James Bond? That seemed the big question hotel guests pondered when choosing in-room movies last month.  (Denzel Washington and Liam Neeson were also deep in the mix.)  To find out if Oscar contenders trumped blockbusters for the top spots, read on.

As always, our monthly movie round-up comes courtesy of LodgeNet, suppliers of in-room entertainment to 1.6 million hotel rooms in the U.S and Canada. (more…)

Pass the Popcorn: The Most-Watched Hotel Room Movies during November 2012

By Terry Trucco

Pass the Popcorn | tags: End of Watch, Hope Springs, Lawless, LodgeNet, Pass the Popcorn, Ted, The Amazing Spider Man, The Bourne Legacy, The Campaign, The Dark Knight Rises, The Expendables 2, Total Recall, Trouble with the Curve | December 4, 2012

Fans of action thrillers like big screens, it seems. How else to explain The Dark Knight Rises’ status as the Number 2 hotel room movie in the United States and Canada and New York City in November, the first month it was available to hotel viewers? Batman got beat out of the top spot by last month’s winners — potty-mouthed teddy-bear Ted (nationwide) and the gritty Bourne Legacy (in New York). (more…)

By Terry Trucco

Pass the Popcorn | tags: 21 Jump Street, American Reunion, Battleship, Dr. Seuss' The Lorax, Five-Year Engagement, Lockout, LodgeNet, Pass the Popcorn, Safe House, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, The Hunger Games, The Lucky One, Think Like a Man | August 3, 2012

That’s Hollywood movies, of course, and once again we bring you the monthly Top Ten list as compiled by LodgeNet, supplier of in-room entertainment to 1.6 million hotel rooms in the US and Canada.

First-run movies hit hotel rooms 60 days prior to their release on DVD and 90 days before Netflix lands them. So what spring blockbuster has hit it big in the nation’s hotels? (more…)

Pass the Popcorn: The Top 10 Hotel Room Movies in June 2012

By Terry Trucco

Pass the Popcorn | tags: 21 Jump Street, Act of Valor, American Reunion, Dr. Seuss' The Lorax, Friends With Kids, LodgeNet, Mirror, Pass the Popcorn, Project X, Safe House, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, The Five Year Engagement, Wrath of the Titans | July 2, 2012

You know it’s summer when you’ve got action movies at the multiplex and comedies in hotel rooms.

Hotel guests across the nation watched 21 Jump Street, about two hapless undercover cops sent back to high school to bring down a drug ring, more than any other pay-to-view movie last month. And in New York City hotels, American Reunion, the class reunion of the all-grown-up American Pie crowd, led the pack, with 21 Jump Street, nipping at its heels.  In other words, high school ruled from coast to coast – just in time for graduation. Pass the Popcorn: The Most-Watched Hotel Room Movies in May 2012

By Terry Trucco

Pass the Popcorn | tags: Act of Valor, American Reunion, Dr. Seuss' The Lorax, John Carter, LodgeNet, Mission Impossible -- Ghost Protocal, Pass the Popcorn, Safe House, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, The Grey, The Vow, This Means War, Wanderlust | June 4, 2012

Once again we’re back with two of our favorite top-10 lists – the Hollywood movies most watched by guests in hotel rooms in New York City and across the nation.

During May the lists were similar with one big difference: John Carter, the interplanetary sci-fi extravaganza that was more box office bust than blockbuster, scored a spot on the national list but not in New York. And Wanderlust, the Jennifer Anniston/Paul Rudd comedy about a couple trading big city life for a commune, was a hit, of sorts, with hotel guests in this big city but not beyond.  Go figure. (more…)

New Yorkers like to think they’re different from the rest of the country, but does that go for the movies watched in New York City hotel rooms?

Not in April. Last month’s ten top Hollywood movies – we don’t keep track of the other kind – viewed in hotel rooms throughout the nation were identical to the top ten screened in New York City hotel rooms. (more…)

Pass the Popcorn | tags: Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, Contraband, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Jack and Jill, LodgeNet, My Week with Marilyn, The Descendants, The Iron Lady, The Sitter, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, War Horse, We Bought a Zoo, Young Adult | April 2, 2012

She scored big in movie theaters, won an Academy Award nomination for Rooney Mara and even picked up a gold statue at the Big Show.  (Hey, no one said soundmixing wasn’t important.) So small surprise The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo cleaned up last month as the most-watched Hollywood movie in hotel rooms in New York and across the nation. (more…)

Here’s how guests voted with their TV remotes (and iPod apps) in February. Note to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences: The Descendants cleaned up big with hotel guests. (more…)

Add the TV zapper to the list of hotel room amenities one step closer to the junk heap.

Last week LodgeNet, the largest provider of in-room entertainment, introduced a new app that lets hotel guests use their smartphones to operate the TV. The free LodgeNet Mobile App turns an iPhone, iPad or Android into a hotel room remote control that does it all –  turns the TV on and off, adjusts the sound and accesses free TV, on-demand TV and pay-per-view movies.  The app also serves up information about the hotel and local events, restaurants, maps and attractions.
